If you are looking for culture and culinary delights, mixed with a good portion of golf, you will find everything your heart desires in the Périgord in the south-west of France: the caves of Lasacaux with the oldest findings of homo sapiens are practically on your doorstep, the picturesque wine-growing region of Bordeaux is in the direct vicinity and nine golf courses invite you to play.
The Périgord also has a lot to offer for canoeing and fishing enthusiasts. The Dordogne is the cleanest river in France and offers in the romantic river valleys about 1000 castles and fortresses on the hills.
The gastronomy spoils gourmets with world-famous wines such as the Pomerol or St. Emilion. On the menu are truffles, nuts, porcini mushrooms and goose liver, all of which are local products. Thus the regional cuisine is one of the best in France.
In the middle of this picturesque landscape lies the hotel “Jardin Fleuri” which is managed by the German couple Dorothée Münziger and Axel Jostock. The intimate atmosphere, the country style suites with their tasteful decoration and the quiet location will make you forget the daily routine.
The golf courses of the region
1st Golf Château des Vigiers ( day-green fee 28,80 € – 46,80 € ) 6300m, par 72, 35 min from the hotel
According to the Golf Journal the most beautiful golf course in Aquitaine. A very well-kept course, in the middle of gently undulating nature, fruit trees and vineyards line the first 9 holes. Afterwards the course goes into the woods behind the estate, precision and good play are now required. Small mistakes are easily forgiven by the course and so even on a “bad day” of the golfer gets in a good mood. With the holes 9 + 18, the architect Donald Steel created one of the most beautiful course layouts around a clubhouse. The monumental château towers in the middle of the course and the eye is offered many delicacies. Generous driving range and very nice pro. Restoration open throughout. Hotel pool can be used.
2nd Golf Château Les Merles ( 9-hole green fee 20,70 €) 2800 m, par 35, 30 min from the hotel
A beautifully situated golf course, in a valley on the side of the Dordogne, a few kilometres east of Bergerac. Framed by the vineyard of the same name and the nature reserve of Liorac, the well-kept course with its old trees offers a lot of pleasure, for the experienced golfer a pleasure. The course also has its pitfalls, such as holes 1 and 4, where one or two balls have been lost due to the abundance of water. Snacks and drinks are available in the clubhouse. No cars.
3rd Golf de Périgueux ( 18-hole green fee 19,80 – 25,50 € ) 5860m, par 72, 35 min from the hotel
Situated on the south-western outskirts of Périgueux, the flat terrain offers much more playing pleasure than is apparent at first sight. In the midst of old trees, a technically demanding terrain awaits you. This course has twice won the competition for the best public golf course. Because of the adjacent industrial area we recommend this course especially on weekends. Snacks and drinks are available after hole 9, driving range and cars available.
4th Golf de Castelnaud ( 18-hole green fee 37 € ) 6500m, par 72, 60 min from the hotel
Situated south of Bergerac in a small valley basin, a lovely, well maintained course with some interesting holes was created and has been under new management since 2002. Several meters of altitude difference have to be mastered, we recommend a cart for comfort oriented golfers. Very sporty and challenging, this course pleases all our guests with its fast greens and good fairways, which are easy to play even in damp conditions. The newly restored brasserie in the clubhouse offers snacks and drinks outside meal times. Driving range, cars and rental trolleys available.
5th Golf de Lalande ( 9-hole green fee 17,10 € ) 5118m, par 35, 35 min from the hotel
A real rarity among golf courses: A private golf course owned by a former member of the French parliament. The Engelhard family welcomes you with selected cordiality and charm like friends of the house. The course is well-kept and is situated in the midst of an enchanting, completely untouched nature. However, it is not a real 9-hole course, as two greens are played from different tees. Also 2 fairways cross each other, but this is compensated by the fact that you usually play alone on the course. Golf-Cars available. No restoration.
6th Golf Domaine de la Marterie (9 holes -23€ from August 2003 18-hole daily green fee 28€) 6062 m, par 74, 55 min from the hotel
Situated in the east of our hotel, embedded in a wooded hilly landscape in an absolutely unique location, the course, which was expanded to 18 holes in autumn 2003, offers a lot of playing pleasure. The cleverly laid out terrain is challenging but not too difficult and refreshing for the golfer’s soul, with a predominantly sandy subsoil that ensures good playability even in wet conditions. As an 18-hole, it will meet all the requirements for large tournaments. Brand new, covered driving range and cars available. Tennis courts and a Resto-Bar complete the offer
7th Golf Domaine de Rochebois ( 9-hole green fee 27 – 34,20 € ) 3200 m, par 35, 70 min from the hotel
If you are in the Dordogne valley to see the sights of Domme or Sarlat, you should definitely include a round on this site. The estate alone is breathtakingly beautiful. While playing golf you have a royal view of “La Roque-Gageac”, the Dordogne is lining hole 3 + 4, it couldn’t be more picturesque, it is one of the most charming golf courses in France. Partly the course presents itself technically very demanding, especially hole 8, where the green is about 100 m higher than the tee. Cars and driving range available.
