With an impressive golf demonstration, the Swiss Jeremy Freiburghaus won through at the Open Bahia Golf Beach 2020. After a total of 54 holes on the courses of Bahia Golf Beach in Bouznika and Royal Golf Anfa Mohammedia in the coastal town of the same name in Morocco, the 23-year-old from Bonaduz in Switzerland triumphed with a total of 16 under par (65, 67, 67). The Tour rookie was nine shots ahead of his pursuers in the undisputed start-finish victory.
There was nothing for the opponents to gain: from day one, Swiss player Jeremy Freiburghaus made it clear in Morocco that he wanted to win his first title on the Pro Golf Tour this week. The Swiss started the tournament with a flawless round of 65 on the par 71 course Royal Golf Anfa Mohammedia, two shots ahead of his opponents, and he extended this lead in the second round. He signed a 67 on the par-72 course at Bahia Golf Beach and now leads the competition by 11 under par and five shots ahead. The man from the canton of Graubünden had played nine birdies and an eagle up to that point, had made no mistakes over 36 holes and was unwaveringly heading for his first tournament success in his first professional season.
And on the final day, the later champion finally didn’t give himself up, opened his third round with a birdie and extended his lead to nine points by the end of another strong 67 round. “I’m really happy that I’ve now won my first professional title,” said the champion. “I played very solid on all three days, including an eagle on a par 4 in the second round, so the result was really deep. Especially my putting was very good and made the many birdies possible. The victory gives me a lot of self-confidence.”
The Frenchman Victor Veyret, Othman Raouzi from Morocco and the German Yannik Emmert shared 2nd place after 54 holes with seven under par and applauded the outstanding champion aner-kennend. He climbs 19 places in the Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit to 4th place. Victor Veyret is the new number 1 of the Pro Golf Tour Ranking, he displaces the German Thomas Rosenmüller to 2nd place. Third is Jean Bekirian, who also comes from France as well as the number 5, Julien Brun.
Four of this year’s eight Pro Golf Tour tournaments in Morocco have now been completed – half time. It continues on 25 March with round 1 of the Open Océan in Agadir.
