The Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship returns this summer

Following the success of the inaugural Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship event last year, the Staysure Tour has confirmed the Cornwall tournament’s presence on its 2020 schedule. Returning to Trevose Golf and Country Club, the four-day event will see some of the most iconic names in golf take on the picturesque and challenging course just five miles west of Padstow between 18–21 June.

Last June marked the championship’s successful debut on Europe’s leading over-50s tour and saw European Tour winner Jean-François Remésy come out victorious to scoop the title and a €50,000 prize.

Nick Gammon is the managing director at Trevose and explained what people can expect from the event’s return. “Everyone at Trevose Golf and Country Club is delighted that the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship is returning to the Staysure Tour this year. Last year’s event was a roaring success and it was fantastic to see so many golfing legends playing out on our course,” he said.

“We are excited to welcome back several Ryder Cup and Major winning players as we look to make the 2020 edition even bigger and better than last year. The team here at Trevose is already working extremely hard in preparation for an event which is sure to live long in the memory.”

1991 Masters winner Ian Woosnam OBE returns as event host and some of the star names likely to play include 1999 Open winner Paul Lawrie OBE, Ryder Cup winning Captain Paul McGinley, one of Italy’s greatest ever golfers, Costantino Rocca, European Tour winner and Ryder Cup player, Peter Baker and two-time European Tour winner Jean van de Velde.

The second of a three-year agreement the event will be promoted by leading event organisers Champions (UK) plc. The East Midlands based brand agency launched the event in 2019 and promote fellow Staysure Tour event, the Farmfoods European Senior Masters, as well as the incredibly popular Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship.

Champions’ director of sport, Tim Munton, said: “Trevose is one of the most beautiful golfing locations in the UK and it is no surprise that last year’s inaugural Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship proved such a success.

“Topping that won’t be easy but we’re looking forward to seeing who comes out on top this year with another stellar list of players already being lined up.”

A number of event partners have also come on board including the Rick Stein Group. It was announced earlier this year that the Cornwall based company became an event partner to the event which will see the group’s Chef Director Jack Stein create a pop up food stand on the course offering spectators delicious food to eat on the go while watching the golfing action.
