Klaas Heufer-Umlauf, presenter on ZDF Neo, and DJane and Viva presenter Palina Rojinsk, were also quick-witted with golf balls. They received professional support from the golf professionals Caroline Masson and Marcel Siem. At the invitation of Mercedes-Benz, they met in a quarry near Kitzbühel and competed against each other there.
The hosts Klaas Heufer-Umlauf and Palina Rojinski both swung a golf club for the first time in their lives in a location that is truly suitable for cross golfers. The target was chosen by the players themselves.
“The first challenge was to give the two newcomers a feeling for golf in ten minutes,” said Caroline Masson. “You didn’t know who to wish better luck in the challenge – us or Klaas and Palina.”
Already at the second tee shot at 250 metres above the bottom of the quarry, Klaas Heufer-Umlauf stood on the roof of the off-road vehicle. His attempt to gain an advantage like that caused amusement among professional players Caroline Masson and Marcel Siem. “It just looks easy,” said Caroline Masson. Klaas Heufer- Umlauf added: “Looking light is my strength. But is the ball perhaps also available in a larger size? My biggest fear is that I’m having too much fun and that I’ll have to go to the golf course secretly next week.
Palina Rojinski and Caroline Masson proved to be a dream team. Especially on the second tee shot in the hollow of the quarry, the two were successful with the chip. “This will be my new sport,” said Palina Rojinski. “Even though the quarry is already an extreme setting, I never thought golf could be so exciting.”
This enthusiasm lasted until the finish. After the short challenge Palina Rojinski and Caroline Masson narrowly defeated the men’s team. “In a quarry, you have your own rules – namely, none,” Marcel Siem remarked.
